Basics are the core of a wardrobe. You can have plenty of trendy clothes or designer pieces to stylize your outfits, but there should always be those items that can follow you through the seasons that will never go out of fashion (at least for the next 10 years). Recently, my brother moved to Chicago and he wanted to start a new look, mostly with basics because of the minimalistic style worn by tycoons such as Mark Zuckerberg, with his t-shirts, jeans and sneakers uniform. I also wear mostly basics, styling my outfits up with bags and shoes. For my brother, he just wants to feel comfortable, look good, and look like he has a clean style for his wardrobe makeover. I looked into different websites and thought that BooHoo has the best, stylish basics for really affordable prices (perfect for buying in bulk and makeovers) They still have an extra 50% OFF discount with code “YAY50”.

Vienna has been on the top of my list to visit ever since I started living in Europe 1-2 years ago. My husband and I travel extensively with our two dogs, especially throughout Europe. We spend a lot of overnights at hotels, so it was perfect that I partnered with the Hilton Vienna, the perfect excuse to go visit and have a suite stay! Not only was the lobby beautifully decorated with a giant silver and gold Christmas tree, it was also a wonderful and comfortable stay in the suite, with a panoramic view of the city and an extra living space off of the room. I always love it when hotels have bathrobes, and I always put them on after a nice bath and when getting ready for the day. We had the full breakfast in the restaurant the first day, but after that we kept going back to the convenient executive lounge at the top of the hotel, with complimentary beverages and food (yay! and delicious) Below are the images from the Hotel lobby and suite, with travel pictures to follow.
FASHION in VIENNA:
Before I talk about the touristing, I wanted to mention that I normally try to pack sparingly for all my travels, which means I usually need to mix and match outfits or prepare a look themed to what I’ll be seeing that day. I had to usually wear walking shoes, like my all black striped Adidas shoes. I also tried to keep things light in colors because I knew the buildings would be a light color. For evening I generally like to have darker or shimmering clothing. And of course I like to be a bit diva with my fluffy coat, especially when I know a city will have all the frills in architecture and decorations I love to look at.
SIGHTSEEING IN VIENNA:
Researching Vienna beforehand, I knew I would be seeing some beautiful architecture, and old style that we just don’t see being made these days. I do love the sleekness of modern style, but I love to feel and the essence of the past of royal taste. Some places we visited were the Belvedere Palace, totally walkable from our Hotel, and the dogs loved to come along and do some sightseeing with us. I was instantly in awe at how beautiful the landscaping was, and the sculptures strategically placed with beautiful marble. Afterwards we got some traditional food at a restaurant and house brewery called Salm Brau, where I’m pictured with a large house brewed beer. Right at sunset the lights about the city turned on, and it was quite charming walking throughout the Christmas markets and beautiful cathedral. My husband had a sweets craving so we walked to a famous pastry cafe Demel, where we got some nice treats. When we exited the cafe there was no mistaking the Hofburg Palace, a light shining at the end of the street. The next day I really wanted to go to the Art History Museum, and it was GORGEOUS!! I wanted to live there. Next time we go to Vienna I am totally going back there. The rest of the time was spent walking through the park with the dogs, wandering the streets, finding beautiful little corners and alleys, with little cozy restaurants tucked away. If it’s on your list, I would certainly try to make it happen. It is a city that is completely walkable and so much to see. Bon Voyage! instagram posts here: @catherinewanders
In early September, some friends got married at a beautiful venue in Cape Cod, Masssachusetts, named the Whequasset Resort and Golf Club. Many family and friends attended and it felt like a celebration of the beautiful Busiek newlyweds and also a reunion of many people I also knew and those who have been lucky to be in the couple’s lives. My father, mother, step-mother, brother and my best friend who is the sister of the groom are all pictured here.
I do not attend many weddings although I do hope to in the future. So I did have some worries about what is appropriate to wear. Luckily I have collaborated with a company that had many pretty dresses and accessories to choose from. I selected a Navy Off-Shoulder Maxi dress and a Silver Plated Leaf Shape belt from SheIn. They are totally affordable prices but fashionable and on trend, and I loved the elegance of the dress. I then wore some Vince Venuto gladiator heels to have some flare.
Cheers to the Busieks and thanks to SheIn for my outfit!
Very rarely am I in a suburban town where all there is to venture to by foot is the park across the street. I love pairing sneakers with dresses and so I threw on one of my mother’s dresses and paired them with my Nike sneakers, or rather “tennies”. I have been living in a concrete jungle for 5 years and it does feel nice for my mind and body to be somewhere more quaint. Inside her house we leave the windows open and beautiful chirps from birdies are everywhere, and the sound of wind whistling by. I am happy to take this time in Maryland near Washington DC to have mother-daughter time in a place that is peaceful. I am happy she just moved here.
About an avenue or so near central park somewhere in the upper east 70’s streets is this delightful french restaurant Orsay. I happened to be wandering around buying time until a meeting a couple hours later, so I got my nails done and headed into this place. It was a sunny day out and I was wearing the perfect amount of covering for my arms and of course a playful short length in my dress. I love how the colors go from light to dark, making it an easy dress to match other pieces to, such as my MIA snakeskin shoes and my 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Medium Satchel which I got while I was in the Hamptons last summer. Cheers to this beautiful weather and trying out new places!
There is an adorably beautiful home right next to my apartment building on the Upper East Side, and I just had to take a picture in front of it on my way to Vella, a wine bar that I love. I’m a firm believer in moving on from any dating situation if you are not happy anymore, so this top seemed to mean something a little more to me when I put it on and hence my title of this post. I liked mixing these pieces together that I would normally not do, layering the long sleeve faded denim top under my Vince blazer and my Via Spiga Snakeskin mules to lighten the bottom of the outfit. Let things fade but keep moving on to wherever you’re going in life!
Here I was passing through the Diamond District in Midtown Manhattan. There are so many people trying to gather your attention to reel you into their stores to buy diamonds or for you to sell. It is extremely overwhelming normally, but I found a time in the mid-afternoon to stop and take a pose. Here I am wearing perfect patent leather shoes from Bianca Di, and I found them online here at Keito, an online shop that also has a boutique in SoHo. My bag was a gift from an ex-boyfriend for my college graduation, it was very nice of him and he likes to call me Cat, so a cat-purse was needed. I actually sadly do not remember the place where he got it but he said he was shopping on Newbury St. when he went to visit his mother in Boston. My sequins top is from Zara, and I fell in love with it instantly at an end of season sale. The top had originally been about $200 since it was a special designer collection but I think I purchased it for $40. My mock suit is from Ann Taylor. I loved mixing the unexpected together and making a fun, yet polished outfit.
On a drizzly day I had made plans to take some photos with photographer Erick Hercules, and my mother was in town so she came to join! We had a nice walk through Chinatown and Erick gave us a nice brief history of the streets we were walking in and how they have become so popular to take photos of. We got to the Manhattan bridge and I was happy to be wearing one of my favorite Korean designer brands TRY-ME, I have two Jackets from them which I absolutely adore because they both have metallic fabric which catches the eye. I am also wearing Zara Suede Boots. I really think Zara has a fabulous shoe selection and constantly bring designer looks and streamlined designs. I was impressed with how my outfit seemed to go perfectly with the setting, and I loved how the photos came out. Erick, the photographer, was born in Ecuador and moved to NYC with his parents to pursue his talent in Opera. He went to The Fame high school that Netflix has as a documentary about high schoolers pursuing their passions. Not only did he find success in his singing but also his new found love for photography over the last couple years. I think it is safe to say that he puts so much effort into his art no matter what that may be. My mother took us out to lunch after and we shared more stories of childhood dreams that we all are chasing now.
Well today was just a lovely afternoon as I celebrated yet another friend’s Aries birthday. The restaurant Jones Wood Foundry is a lovely wine and beer bar on the Upper East Side with a beautiful restaurant in the back which has multiple rooms with different character feel in each. We were one of the first to be sitting in the outdoor seating since it finally just started to get warmer. We had Sancerre, the Fish n Chips and the Salmon Burger. I’m wearing a Vince white blazer, and H&M Blue Dress and MIA snakeskin heels which I think are a fabulous design.
This outfit I wore to an Instagram meet up about a couple weeks ago. It was amazing to meet so many talented photographers who are also interested in a social media platform that has had continuous growth. It was actually quite windy on the East River in Manhattan as we walked from the Manhattan Bridge to the Brooklyn Bridge taking photos of different subjects as we went along. The photographer which can be found @canhatam, a Boston based photographer originally from Turkey has been blowing up on Instagram with his beautiful photos using the hashtag #discoveraround. My Burberry jacket was envied by many since I seemed to have the warmest one on, however, my short dress underneath for the after party was not helping with the under draft. My Sam Edelman boots definitely helped keep my legs warmer and they were not painful at all throughout the walk.
